The company Potain was established in La Clayette, France in the year 1928. Ever since that time, the company has grown into a leading producer of cranes. The company is responsible for over 100,000 cranes in operation around the globe. Now, the company manufacturers more than 60 models from different manufacturing facilities inside China, France, Portugal, Germany and Italy. The Potain family makes 3 different tower crane families. The self-erecting cranes are the smallest ones in the Potain range. These cranes vary from 1 ton to 7.98 ton capacity. The next size up is the top-slewing cranes that are bigger and higher. These cranes vary from 7.98 to 64 tons. Moreover, these are the largest custom-made special application cranes. These models offer a reach capacity of one hundred sixty tons.



Some of the main innovations with the company comprise the LLC series of hoists, the Vision Cab and the Dialog control system. The growing reputation of the company has expanded their appeal with different models. Potain cranes are often found on conventional construction sites, power stations, bridge building projects, ship-building projects and shipbuilding yards.



Manitowoc has 2 of their largest manufacturing facilities within the United States. The Manitowoc manufacturing facility is situated within Wisconsin. In this state, both crawler cranes and the tower crane components are constructed within Pennsylvania in the Shady Grove facility. Here both boom trucks and mobile cranes are built. Regional offices are located within Brazil and in Mexico. Additionally, the extensive dealer network located throughout the United States and Canada offers support and coverage unrivalled by any other crane producer.
