High Impact Lift Truck Safety
Occupational Safety and Health Administration or OSHA statistics have proven that nearly all of the accidents caused by forklifts also occur from the failure of people following proper safety features. Anyone from the drivers, co-workers and pedestrians must be aware and make sure these incidents are avoided. Thankfully, there are really many ways to resolve these issues.
Inspection
Even if a high impact lift truck is a durable and tough machine, capable of withstanding a few knocks during its shift, it is certainly not invincible by any means. At the start of each shift, the user has to check the usability and cleanliness of the machinery. If something out of the ordinary must occur, the operator must instantly notify their supervisor. Inspections on a daily basis must be done at the end or beginning of each shift to make sure that the lift truck is in proper working condition.
Training
Training to operate a forklift is required and an important measure that helps to ensure the safety of the operator and their co-employees. Training is offered in order to teach the lift truck employees how to deal with stability issues, how to correctly inspect the machinery and also how to respond to emergency situations. A lot of businesses provide lift truck training. Upon successful completion of the course, a license and certification will be provided as proof of passing the training.
Exhaustion
The forklift is a large industrial equipment, it should never be used by drivers who may be unfocused or very tired. Accidents happening from fatigue are unfortunately a common experience. These mistakes could be easily prevented if the worker just admits that they are not capable of driving the lift truck when they are feeling exhausted.
Kalmar is a forklift company who made the largest lift trucks on the market in the 1990s. These kinds of machinery were rated with an impressive 90-tonne capacity. The fact is, Kalmar earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records. Today, there are a variety of forklift manufacturers engineering and building large lift trucks.
