Reach Truck
In order to keep storage places orderly and to store supplies and pallets of goods, a reach truck can be used. The reach truck comes in several models: the double-deep reach, straddle reach and the stand-up reach.
The stand-up is the simplest. The forks of the truck slide beneath the pallet and move it to the right storage location. The forks slide the pallet into place. This kind of reach truck is recommended when shelving units are just one pallet deep.
Best for workplaces where the shelving units are deep enough to accommodate two pallets of goods, the double-deep reach truck, which is similar to the stand-up, is frequently used. This particular model has telescopic forks intended to position the pallet at the back of the shelving unit. This saves having to push the pallet back when one more pallet must go into the same shelving section.
Straddle reaches have the added advantage of being able to not only slide beneath the pallet, but also to grasp the sides. These are suitable for workplaces where shelving units could be accessed in multiple directions. This particular version is ideal in conditions where goods will not be damaged if the pallet sides are grabbed.
Usually more than one kind of reach truck is required in warehouses. Textile companies and manufacturing facilities use various types of reach trucks in their supply areas. The reach truck is not difficult to operate and could increase production while making the most of available storage space.
