Forklift Battery Safety
The power to operate electric forklifts is supplied by big industrial batteries that have to be charged regularly and maintained properly. Safety procedures should be followed while connecting the battery to the charger. It is really vital to check battery fluid levels.
PPE - Personal Protective Equipment
Eye protection is essential for anybody working with a forklift battery. Full protection includes goggles, safety glasses, or a full face shield. The right way to protect clothes and skin from leaked acid or other residue is to wear an approved apron on the body and thick rubber gloves on the hands.
Emergency Eyewash Station
An emergency eyewash station should be located near the charging place. The route to the post should not be obstructed and an injured employee should be able to reach the eyewash station from the charging area in 10 seconds while walking.
Charger Safety
The charger should be the same amperage as the battery. It should be turned off while the battery is being plugged in.
Open Flames
When near a battery and charging area, open flames are not allowed. Never allow things such as matches or lighters to be used when someone is inspecting the fluid levels in the battery.
Ventilation
It is essential to keep the battery charging place correctly ventilated. The recharging method could release gas. These gases are both explosive and toxic.
